Today I’m writing up a post that I don’t normally do, but I’m very excited about. I’m sharing my Master Bedroom Makeover that I’ve been working on. I don’t normally share makeover projects that I’ve done in my home, but I decided I’m gonna start!
The Decision
We moved in our home back in 2015. It was a new home but of course I had a laundry list of things I have wanted to change. We have worked on every room in the house except my bedroom and bathroom. So for our 20 year wedding anniversary last August my hubby and I decided, let’s give our bedroom the makeover it so desperately needed. This August it will be one year and I think we’ve gotten a lot done. All that’s left to do is shiplapping the walls and hanging the tv.
BEFORE
As you can see this bedroom needed a makeover bad. I got my bedroom set at Rooms To Go back in 2004, it’s held up great but I just needed something completely different. I wanted to go for a Coastal light and airy feel with this makeover. Of course if you follow me on Instagram then you know my home decor style is coastal meets farmhouse.
This room felt very dark and drab. It needed to be brightened up for sure.
The walls when we bought the house had this pattern on it and strips. We had to remove all the strips on the walls. These strips drive me crazy. In some of the other rooms we just spackled over them and sanded it down smooth. But it takes forever and the house gets so dusty. So our best bet is shiplapping the walls. We plan on doing a vertical shiplap in this room.
Crown Molding, Baseboards and Painting
First thing I had to do was paint the walls. I used Valspar Betsy’s Linen from Lowes. I absolutely love this color, it’s throughout my home and it’s such a perfect shade. I have even had several friends use this color in their homes.
Next I needed to add crown molding and baseboards to the room. Crown molding and baseboards make such a difference. I actually learned how to do the baseboards myself. It’s not too hard to do baseboards, but crown molding that’s another story. I needed the hubby to help me do that step.
Window Trim
I love the farmhouse window trim style. It’s easy to do and looks great! We have been adding it to each window throughout the house.
I wish I took step by step photos of the process. They have some great tutorial on Pinterests for the process. Maybe that will be a post I do next.
AFTER
As you can see this room is a MAJOR improvement from before. I am beyond happy with how things have turned out. Over the last couple months I’ve been lucky to find the finishes touches like the rug, wall sconces and wall art.
I’ll show you around!
I found the bed, nightstands and dresser at Ashleys Furnitures. That’s how this whole makeover got started. We decided just to take a look in Ashelys to see if we saw anything we liked. Once I saw this bedroom set I had to have it! I knew it would go perfect for my coastal feel I wanted in this room.
First, can I just say I’m obsessed with this light fixture from World Market! It’s by far my favorite piece in the room. I saw this light fixture a couple years ago in World Market and I knew once I made over my bedroom I had to have it. I love just looking up at it!
Another thing that I like to have is a solid white comfortable. It’s like a blank canvas to me and you can add your colors by switching out the pillows, throws and flowers for the seasons. Like I did here for Christmas.
These wall sconces were a great buy from Amazon! When I want to relax at night and watch a show (currently rewatching breaking bad), I just dim these lights. My hubby added a dimmer to them and even connected them to our alexa.
TJMaxx/HomeGoods is one of my favorite places to buy all my home accessories. They always have the best pieces of coral, candles and faux flower arrangements.
I’ve even gotten most of my wall art from HomeGoods.
One thing that I insisted on in the bedroom was a sitting area. A place I could
