Today I’m sharing a fun movie night post with The Secret Life of Pets! My kids are so excited about this movie, our family even went to the theaters to see it. So we were thrilled that the movie is now available on Blu-ray & DVD. The new release comes with nearly 1-hour of bonus footage and 3 new mini movies!
This animated movie is a comedy about the lives our pets lead after we leave the house for work, school or shopping each day. I have a dog and I alway wonder what she does, probably sitting on the couch.

I love to have little parties for my kids so I was really excited to come up with a whole movie night set up. We always have a movie night on Fridays, but this time I thought I would make it extra special for the kids. We usually have root beer floats or ice cream, but since it’s so cold outside now I thought I would set up a hot chocolate station. My boys love their hot chocolate.
Once the hubby got home from work we got started with our movie night!
I wanted to make the cups extra special for the boys so I made them look like the characters. Max was a really easy one to do. All I did was paint in his face and add some googly eyes! Then a cute paper straw to top it off!
I found a dog bone shape cookie cutter. I knew it would be perfect for our movie night. Dog bone shape chocolate chip cookies! Duke loved them!
Of course you can’t have hot chocolate without some yummy marshmallows!
Another special touch for our movie night were these dog bone shaped candy canes. While I was at TJMaxx I found dog bone shaped mold. I grabbed it up right away!
All I did was crush up some candy canes in a bag and place them in the molds. I set the oven to 325 and baked them for 10 minutes. Voila, the perfect dog bone shaped candy canes to dip in their hot chocolate!
Gidget was my favorite from the movie. Jenny Slate plays her and I’ve always been a big fan of hers. She has such a hyper personality and I love that! I made a super simple cup with her on it and topped it off with a pink paper straw too.
Just to make my boys laughed I grabbed a box of Whoppers, when you see the movie you’ll know why I grabbed these. Super funny part in the movie. Kevin Hart did an amazing job as the voice of Snowball. I watch his standups so to see him as this little bunny was pretty funny. He’s a great addition for the parents.
Of course, you can’t have a movie night without the popcorn. So I found some little dog bowls at The Dollar Tree for their popcorn. They LOVED it! They couldn’t stop laughing when I pulled them out. For my boys it was perfect.
Now let’s get this movie night started!!
We had to make our hot chocolate and add the treats inside! He put a whopper in his while I was taking a picture.
Looks yummy!!
Now we have our popcorn!!
LET’S GET STARTED!!!
These kids didn’t move an inch while the movie was on. Now that’s an entertaining movie if it can keep my kids still. We all really enjoyed watching it and spending time together as a family and laughing. We have some great new inside jokes now because of this movie. “The revolution has begun! Liberated forever, domesticated never!”
Be sure to pick up a copy of The Secret Life of Pets on DVD and Blu-ray for your next family movie night. The all-star voice cast includes Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Dana Carvey, Hannibal Buress, Bobby Moynihan, Steve Coogan and Albert Brooks.
