I’m very pleased to show off my new weekend project!! A simple Dresser Makeover for my son’s dinosaur themed room! I am apart of the DecoArt Core Blogger Team and this month we needed to use their new Vintage Effect Wash on our garage sale project makeover. They have a HUGE variety of colors to create a vintage weathered look. I paired it up with a beautiful Chalky Finish – New Life, and I think the combination is fantastic!
Disclosure: I am a member of the core blogger program with DecoArt. I received compensation and product for this post. All ideas and opinions are 100% my own.
So Let’s get started with the makeover, (which) was done in no time!
DRESSER MAKEOVER BEFORE
I found this piece for $20 and I knew I could give it a great makeover. I had some BIG plans for this dresser!
Here are all the paint colors I used for this project. I recently did a Beach Sign using the Vintage Effect Wash as well. This paint is pretty incredible!
Getting Started – Chalk Paint
I went over the whole piece with my Chalky Finish New Life. I needed to do a total of three coats. Let each coat dry 30 minutes.
See how beautiful this color is! I really stepped out of my comfort zone and I’m so glad I did.
VINTAGE EFFECT WASH
Now it’s time to add our Vintage Effect Wash. I only wanted to do the top part of the dresser. Since I wanted to do the lettering on the front I thought it might look too busy.
I added a little paint to a paper plate and lightly went over the top with my paint brush. You can wipe it down with a cloth, BUT for this step I didn’t. I was really liking how it went on the piece. Let dry 15 minutes and go over again with a second coat.
WOW that’s looking AWESOME!! This is really turning into a fast and simple dresser makeover, right!
ADD STENCIL
Let’s add our stencil for an extra special touch! I used my Silhouette Cameo to create my stencil for this step. I use this machine all the time and LOVE it. For more detail on how I made and added my stencil check out this post! — DIY Flash Cards.
Once the stencil was on I added two coats of Chalky Finish Whisper. I think it was the POP the piece needed!
CRATES
So as you can tell this dresser was missing the bottom drawer. So I thought why not use some $10 crates from Wal-Mart to fill the space. You can add books, clothes, blankets, etc. Whatever you want!
I painted on the Vintage Effect Wash and then, lightly wiped the excess off. It really gives it a COOL look, right?! I only added one coat and let dry 30 minutes.
To finish this off we added a little stencil to the bottom. I might add some wheels later on, like this Wooden Book Crate.
FINISHING TOUCHES
ALL DONE! Wow I had this whole dresser makeover done in just a couple hours!! That’s a makeover I really like. This is going to look PERFECT in his dinosaur themed room.
The top turned out great and no sanding required! WOOHOO!
So if you know me and follow my blog then you know I’m all about coastal decor for my home. I usually give makeovers with whites, off whites, and coastaly blue colors. SO it was really refreshing to work with this Chalky Finish New Life Green and the Vintage Effect Wash Green. Next I need to paint his bed so you might be seeing a new post about that soon!
What would you paint using this Vintage Effect Wash?
