I’ve been hard a work preparing the house for Christmas, one project I made were these Rustic Felt Tree Christmas Decorations for Make it Fun Blog.
I did a similar project a couple years ago for Valentines, my super cool Valentine Heart Trees. These projects are so simple but really cute. I found my inspiration for these over at Pottery Barn. I knew right away that I wanted to attempt these and really try to make them on budget. I love Pottery Barn BUT is can get pretty expensive. Sorry Pottery Barn, I still love ya!
Rustic Felt Tree Christmas Supplies Needed:
Step 1 – Getting Started
Once you pick out your cone size and felt color you’re ready to get started!!!
Since the kids are at school I got started crafting right away!
Step 2 – Glue Wood To Foam
I found these great pieces of wood at my craft store for around $4.00 a pack. I glued my wood pieces together and then glued it to the bottom of my cone. Make sure you use a low-temp glue gun for this project.
Step 3 – Cut and Add Felt
Next, I hand cut my felt into leaf shapes. For the larger cone, I needed two sheets of felt.
Start at the bottom of the cone and work your way up. I added a dab of glue on each leaf and firmly pressed it onto the cone. Overlap each felt leaf slightly to completely cover the cone.
Step 4 – Finish Top
Since the top of the cone is flat, I had to make my own cone shape with the felt. I was debating on adding something at the top of my tree, but I didn’t want it to look like a traditional Christmas tree, so I left it off. The felt is stiff enough that when glued together, it stood up.
Finishing Touches
I’m putting up two trees this year. One room will be FULL coastal and the other will be rustic/plaid. I think these trees will be a perfect addition to the rustic room.
As you can see these are a pretty simple project to make. I think changing out the felt colors would great like these Felt Heart Valentine Trees. Pink for a girl’s room, or green for a boy’s room or natural tree look. You can even add something to the top if you prefer. Totally up to you!!
Have a great Holiday season.
If you’re looking for more cone crafts, then these DIY Foam Lighthouses are another great idea. This burlap wreath was also a rustic craft that will fit in great with your decor.
