Hello friends, today I’m sharing a sweet DIY Stress Ball craft I made to go with this new book We Don’t Eat Our Classmates by Ryan T. Higgins!
I’m very excited I had the opportunity to read this book and introduce it to my boys. My boys just started school and they were pretty excited about it except my 6 year old. He started 1st grade this year and it’s a big change for him, so he was super nervous.
I think this book and stress ball will be very helpful for kids starting school and are a little nervous.
Let’s get started!
DIY Stress Ball
DIY Stress Ball Supplies
- Balloons
- Flour
- Funnel
- Glue
- Felt
- Sharpie
Step 1 – Add Flour
There are several different things you can add inside your stress ball (flour, rice, or beans). But I decide to stick with flour for this project.
Use a funnel to add your flour inside. This makes this step so much easier.
Voila!!
Step 2 – Add Flour To Balloon
Blow your balloon up and stretch it over your water bottle.
Then flip it over and start shaking the flour into the balloon. Once all the flour is in your balloon, then gently let all the air out. But if you let it out too fast, then the flour will BURST out of your balloon and you’ll have a BIG mess.
Step 3 – Cut Felt and Add Spikes
Now let’s add our dino plates to the back of the balloon. I looked it up, that’s what they’re called, plates, fun fact! I used some felt for this step. I cut out my shape and added a touch of glue to the bottom, then firmly placed them onto my balloon.
Let dry 30 minutes.
Step 4 – Draw on Face
So this is the fun part! Drawing on the dino face. We scanned the book to find the face we liked the best. This is a step parents can draw out first with a pen, then let your little one fill in with a marker.
Now that we’re finished, let’s read this book again and get excited for school!
Whenever the kids get a little stressed during their first day of school or even throughout the school year, they can give their little dino stress ball a squeeze!
We had some fun laughs reading this sweet book together. I really think it helps with his anxiety about school.
Now we’re ready to get this school day started! He has his book and stress ball to take to school today.
About We Don’t Eat Our Classmates
It’s the first day of school for Penelope Rex, and she can’t wait to meet her classmates. But it’s hard to make human friends when they’re so darn delicious! That is, until Penelope gets a taste of her own medicine and finds she may not be at the top of the food chain after all. . . .
