Happy Tuesday everyone! I hope you all had a nice Mothers Day. I sure did, we just started Phase 1 of reopening here in NC, but we decided to just stay home, relax and order some dinner in. I knew everywhere around here was going to be super busy, especially the places I wanted to go for Mothers Day. So we had a Hunger Games movie marathon and enjoyed our newly redecorated living room.
Today I’ll show you how I gave my entertainment center a quick and easy makeover using DecoArts Chalky Finish paint. I had the whole project done in a day!
Let’s get started!
Supplies Needed:
Before back in 2013.
Here’s the first makeover back in 2014 using Annie Sloan Chalk paint. I loved this makeover, but my style has changed over the years and I wanted to go with a solid white look with this piece.
I have painted several pieces of furniture using the Chalky Finish. Like this coffee table makeover. It’s held up great over the years from my family, so I knew it would be a perfection option for this entertainment center makeover.
Everlasting is DecoArts solid white color and it’s beautiful and crisp. DecoArt has lots of chalky finish paint color options.
Here’s a picture of the process, when I was shiplapping the wall behind it. I was doing both projects at once. My poor husband never knows what he’s gonna come home too anymore.
Instructions
I’m doing the instruction process a little different then my usual tutorials. When I started this project it wasn’t necessarily going to be a post on my blog. The kids were home from school, it was a rainy day and I was bored. So what better way to keep myself occupied then starting a whole new project. I cleared out the entertainment center, cleaned it and got started.
I just painted over the existing paint, I didn’t sand it. Since the previous color was already pretty light, it only took a couple coats to paint the entire piece. I had to add three coats on the blue parts.
Once the paint was fully dry I went over the entire piece with a finishing wax. I used a old washcloth to rub it in. Let everything dry overnight, and the next day you can start decorating it!
I’ve been working on a living room makeover this year. This was before, then we got a new couch, rug, coffee table and light fixture. Now it the relaxing coastal space I’ve always wanted.
The after!
We’ve been self quarantining in the house since April 15th. Running out to grab groceries once a week. The kids have been home since around that time too, so it’s been nice having a space to sit relax and be able to spend time together in.
Painting this piece really brightens up the space. The long goal for this living room is getting a fireplace and mounting the tv about it. But for now this will hold me until we can do that next step. $20 worth of paint and I have a whole new feel in this living room!
As always thanks for stopping by, if you have any questions just let me know!
