Hello all! Today I’m sharing a new Silhouette project for the house. I loved the idea of having a lantern project that you can change through the seasons by just changing a couple things. That’s what decorating all about right?! Using some vinyl and your Silhouette cutting machine you can do just that!
It’s a simple home decor project you can have done in no time! I also think this would make an AMAZING wedding or housewarming gift for someone.
Let’s get started and I’ll show you how simple it really is to make!
Lantern Supplies Needed:
- Distressed Wooden Lantern
- Vinyl
- Silhouette Cameo 4
- Weeding Tool
- Scraper Tool
- Transfer Paper
- LED Candle Set
- Potted Succulent Tree
- Potted Faux Cacti Plant
- River Rocks
- Tropical Shells
Step 1 – Pick out Vinyl
Lets start off by picking out our lantern and vinyl. I choose this lantern because it had a lot of real estate on the front to work with.
Step 2 – Pick and Cut Phrase
Now it’s time to pick out our phrase for the front of the lantern. I went into the Silhouette library and found several phrase options I wanted to use for the project. Make sure to measure the front of the lantern for your perfect sizing.
Step 3 – Weed Phrase
Cut your phrase on blade setting 3. I then used the weeding tool to remove all the excess vinyl from the design.
Step 4 – Add Transfer Paper
Next use transfer tape to transfer the design to the front of the lantern.
Smooth with a scraper tool and carefully remove the transfer tape.
Voila!! See how easy that was to do!
Step 5 – Decorate Your Lantern
Now it’s time to decorate the inside of the lantern. My favorite was of course adding candles. But your can add the succulent tree, shells, moss, plants, etc., to the inside.
I made three different looks for this post to give you a couple ideas for inspiration.
Farmhouse Inspiration
I paired this lantern up with this beautiful Succulent plant. The plant also looks amazing on the inside of the lantern but for photo purposes I placed the plant next to it.
Beachy Inspiration
If you know me then you know I’m ALL about coastal decor. I added some shells to the inside for the perfect beachy touch!
Classic Inspiration
My classic take for this lantern was just adding some moss around the LED candles, and pairing it up with that gorgeous Cacti plant.
I really loved how these turned out. I think you can change out your sayings for different seasons or holidays. Halloween add a spooky saying with pumpkins inside. Christmas time add mini trees and snow. The possibilities are endless for a project like this!
