DIY Easter Family Portrait Inspiration

April 18, 2014 by Clyde Sanchez (Hubby) Leave a Comment

Easter portrait motivation

I know it’s close to Easter, but I HAD to showoff our Easter portraits of the boys! Can you believe we took ’em in our living room?

Courtney and I take GREAT pride in our family portraits. Maybe it’s because the boys are such hams!?

Maybe it’s because the boys are such hams!?

We recently wrapped up this year’s Easter portraits of our boys. I thought it would be a great chance to compare last year’s Easter photos with the ones we just shot!

Who knows, maybe we just might inspire a few people.

The main differences between the 2 sets of Easter portraits are the following factors:

  • Natural light vs. Off-camera flash
  • Aperture priority vs. Manual settings
  • Experience and knowledge

So, TAKE-A-LOOK at our family’s Easter photos and find your inspiration!

Natural Light Easter Portraits

Okay, so these portraits were taken a year ago using JUST window light! The ADVANTAGE of window light is it can be very soft and flattering.

The disadvantage is you can’t always count on the sun to be where you need it. So you may need to adjust your camera’s ISO to compensate.

Easter Portraits Taken With Flash

Now check out this year’s Easter photos! They may NOT be traditional, but boy do they pack a PUNCH!

We shot THESE portraits on a white background using a Nikon speedlight and beauty dish. Obviously the advantage here is total control over the light!

The negative with this setup is you MUST understand how to use your camera and flash with manual settings.

I love his expression (it’s TOTALLY him)!

As I said earlier, we are SO proud of our family’s Easter portraits!

If you’ve gotten this far, “Thank you!” for taking the time to view our photos. HOPEFULLY you found some inspiration :)

It just goes to show you that YOU TOO can take great photos at home!
