Hello everyone, today I’d like a share a new DIY Halloween Tote Bag I made over at the Darice Blog last month. As I’m sure you’re aware of this new Halloween trend using pastels, glitters and bright colors. It’s everywhere and I’m loving it, really who wouldn’t love a cheerful Halloween!
I’ll show you how to turn a simple tote bag into a fun fashionable piece for your Halloween season. All you need is some fabric paint, tote bag and a cutting machine.
Since this is such an easy project I love the idea of turning this Halloween project into a fun girls craft night, add some wine and your set!
So let’s get started!
DIY Halloween Tote Bag Supplies Needed:
- Canvas Tote
- Fabric Paint
- Pom Pom Garland
- Hot Glue
- Vinyl
- Cutting Machine
- Sponge Brush
- Transfer Paper
Step 1 – Add Cardboard
Because we don’t want the paint to bleed through, you will need to add a cardboard piece in your canvas tote. I had a VERY thick piece of cardstock that I was able to use perfectly.
Step 2 – Cut Stencil
I made my stencil using my Silhouette Cameo, but any cutting machine will work. I found the image in the Silhouette library – Design ID 225870. I made sure to measure out the tote and size my image to fit.
Step 3 – Weed and Add Stencil
Next I weeded and transferred my stencil to the canvas tote.
Step 4 – Fill in Stencil
Now the fun part, adding our fabric paint! I love this paint, last month I made this Farmhouse Apron using this paint and a Darice apron.
I used a “hand dandy” sponge brush to add my paint. Only one coat is needed and it dries within 5 minutes.
Step 5 – Remove Stencil
Now it’s time to gently pull up our stencil. With this vinyl and paint we have no bleeding! WOOHOO!!
Look at how AMAZING this turned out! But it still needs something extra….
Step 6 – Add Garland
Pom pom garland! I went through my pom pom garland stash to find the best coordinating color.
I used my “trusty” glue gun to add the garland across the top of the tote bag.
Voila, all finished. I had this halloween tote bag made in less then a hour. It took me longer to decide on what image I wanted to use!
If your loving this bright and cheerful feel of Halloween, then check out this Halloween Neon Sign I made last year.
As always, thanks for stopping by and checking out my latest project. If you have any questions about this Halloween Tote bag just let me know!
