I’m so thrilled to announce that my new book Brick Building 101 is available in stores and on Amazon now! I am so proud of how this book turned out, Walter Foster Jr. did an AMAZING job putting this book together for me. So I thought I’d write a quick post and share how this book got started and what it’s about!
Now kids can combine a love for LEGO with learning STEAM topics (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) in this awesomely fun activity book!
Industrious minds will love learning to build a bunch of different stuff with these 20 step-by-step projects that range from beginner projects, such as a geoboard and DIY slime, to more challenging projects, such as a bird feeder and balloon racer. Large, full-color photos show each step along the way, with simple instructions and inspiration to extend projects and keep learning.
With STEAM learning on the rise, this book is the perfect way to inspire play and interest in the topics kids need to know about!
BRICK BUILDING 101
How the book came to be –
When I was presented by Walter Foster Jr. to do this book I was a little hesitant to say the least. I’m more of a kids craft and DIY blogger. After talking it over with my hubby, I decided this is a perfect opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. I LOVE working on fun projects like this with my kids, so why not try writing about it. I have three boys 5, 7 and 9 and they love trying new STEAM based activities, I just never wrote about they on my site.
A Helping Friend –
I have become close friends with my son’s teacher, she does STEAM based activities with her first grade class and I just loved that. I would send in fun things for her to use in her class with the kids. It was just really cool she did that, so after I was presented with the book idea I thought why not have her join me and guide me a little with the projects in the book. She has a teaching background and really helped with what the STEAM based aspects were for each project. A BIG thanks to Jessica Wright!!
The Publisher –
I’ve had the privilege to work with Walter Foster Jr. with all three of my books. They are a great publishing company to work with and really listen to what ideas I have for their books. The whole team was amazing!
The Illustration –
I can’t say enough on the FANTASTIC job Natasha Hellegouarch did on the illustration for this book, creating all the cute LEGO people really gives this book that kid friendly feel that I was looking for.
My Inspiration –
My youngest son was the perfect age for this book, you can see him working on a couple projects throughout the book. All activities were created and tested by this little guy. As you can see he’s tickled to see his projects in this book!
Here he is pulling out some of his LEGOs to try to make some of the LEGO letters from the book.
OUR GOAL
Since this is a STEAM based book we would LOVE to create a series on these books. Showing that you can incorporate STEAM activities in so many ways with your kids! We want each book with it’s own theme based on STEAM activities. I will keep you guys posted with that!
A BIG Thanks!
I really want to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone that was apart of this book. It it truly something to be proud of. My family really supported me with this whole process, especially my husband. There were time’s I was a little overwhelmed, in wanting to make everything perfect and all the research correct. My hubby would tell me to take a break and start fresh the next day. It worked every time!
So make sure to stop by Amazon and grab yourself a copy!
Love, Courtney
